Merits dam, Nadine, was one of the few horses of the Barreau/Royal line. She originated from the Government breeding program at Deschambaults, and was one of the highest selling fillies sold at their dispersal sale when the breeding program ceased in 1981. Merit is the last of her line, as Nadine was sadly lost to cancer in the fall of 2002.
Merit is a beautifully built stallion, with the elegant head and neck of his dam, and the powerful shoulder and hindquarters of his sire. His conformation is exceptional, and he exemplifies the traditional looking Canadian Horse with straight legs, rock hard feet, good ground covering movement and a well balanced, muscular body. Merit has inherited his sire’s lovely quiet Henryville temperament and is a very kind, sensible, responsive stallion with an exceptional work ethic.
Merit has had a succession of show wins, having won BC Interior Canadian Horse Show and PAcific Canadian Horse Show Reserve Champion at the age of two, and Champion Canadian Horse Stallion at both the Pacific Canadian Horse Show and the Interior Provincial Exhibition, as a mature stallion. Merit made his official dressage debut in the fall of 2008 and did very well, taking 2nd place in his first dressage test ever and winning the second.
