Merits dam, Nadine, was one of the few horses
of the Barreau/Royal line. She originated from
the Government breeding program at Deschambaults,
and was one of the highest selling fillies sold
at their dispersal sale when the breeding program
ceased in 1981. Unfortunately her line is no longer,
as we sadly lost Nadine to cancer in the fall
of 2002. Merit is a beautifully built colt, with
the elegant head and neck of his dam, and the
powerful shoulder and hindquarters of his sire.
He has nearly perfect conformation and is the
epitome of traditional looking Canadian Horse
with straight legs, good feet, and a well balanced,
compact and muscular body. He won Show Reserve
Champion at the recent BC Interior Canadian Horse
Show. At this point, we actually consider him
to be our best stallion. He has inherited his
sires lovely quiet temperament, and is very kind,
polite, and easy to handle. He has excellent herd
and ground manners, and has covered his first
mare this year, and was a gentleman with this
as well.
